PG Department of Commerce
The Department of commerce was established in 1992 for providing quality education to the girls of Malwa region in the field of Commerce. Since its inception in 1992 with around 60 students, the department has come a long way. Presently known as Post Graduate Department of Commerce, it is scaling new heights with the hard work of highly qualified faculty. Currently under the headship of Dr. Pomy Bansal, the Department has been providing excellent services in the field of higher education in this predominately backward area of Bathinda District. This multi/faculty department fulfils the educational needs of many villages around Bathinda in a radius of more than 35 kilometers. It aims to nurture commerce professionals with high level of knowledge and competence. On the demand from students, the department started M.com Regular Course from the session 2013-14. Further, with the aim to encourage our students towards specialization in Commerce, the department has introduced B.com Honors from 2015-16.
To inculcate the reading habits, the department has a very attractive departmental library housed with more than 800 books. Total 26 students of M.Com have qualified UGC NET since inception of M.Com in 2013-14.
The department organized first National Seminar (ICSSR Sponsored) in the history of college on 15th March 2014. Its main theme was "MSMEs in Punjab: Opportunities & Challenges". On 5th March, 2016, it organized National level seminar on the theme "Startup India: The Road Ahead”. Next National level seminar "Women Sensitization for Promising Solutions: A Strategy for Inclusive Growth" (UGC Sponsored) was organized by the department on 4th March, 2017.
Seven Day Workshop/FDP (2nd May 2016 to 8th May 2016) was organized by the department in which 43 faculty members from different colleges and institutions took part. 14th & 15th National Youth Parliamentary Competitions were held in S.S.D. Girls College. Programme Co-ordinator for NYPC was Dr. Neeru Garg.
In order to develop moral values among students, the department has arranged visits for students to many places like Old Age Home, Deaf and Dumb School etc. The department often organizes different competitions and various co-curricular activities on festivals or occasions. The department organizes Parent- Teacher Meetings at regular intervals successfully.
The department has established a placement cell that has invited many companies and banks such as HDFC, ICA and Touch Stone etc. for the successful placement of students. Thousand of its students have been placed at higher level positions in various parts of the country.
